Today, a world leader in the mining and processing of valuable metals. Once – the state-owned Polish Mining and Smelting Combine. It has been in operation since 1949. It is engaged in the extraction and processing of valuable natural resources. At its heart is Europe’s largest copper ore deposit located in southwestern Poland. Implementation of the development strategy systematically strengthens KGHM’s international position. The company currently has a geographically diversified portfolio of mining projects. It has production facilities on three continents – in Europe, North America and South America. KGHM’s world-controlled copper ore reserves – 40 million tons – guarantee the company’s name as a leader in the mining industry. The portfolio also included new metals such as molybdenum, palladium and nickel, paving the way for KGHM to take a strong position among global multi-commodity companies.

 

Situation before implementation


  • The execution of the main shipping orders was done in part in the SLK system, which was created by Pertrosoft for KGHM, in Excel files and on cards, (no unified process from the office)
  • The occurrence of a large number of document delays and errors due to the lack of accessibility to issue documents and perform actions by the traction team from the ground
  • Generating additional costs due to the lack of weighing and counting of wagon combinations when crossing gates at mines
  • Lack of integration with SAP, SKRJ and SEPE caused double the amount of work when adding and verifying data while performing daily transportation and maintenance processes

Implemented solution


Petrosoft Technologie Informatyczne sp. z o.o. in cooperation with KGHM’s IT department, carried out the supply and implementation of a system for managing a railroad company, siding and workshop. The work carried out consisted of:

  • Analysis of SLK software made a few years earlier, analysis of the company’s current business, logistics and IT situation.
  • Delivery of a comprehensive solution according to KGHM S.A.’s security policy.
  • Creation of dedicated modules ordered by the customer
  • Configuration and customization of the functionality and appearance of the system according to the customer’s needs
  • Training of employees on the purchased modules both technically and in business terms, taking into account the specifics of the processes performed
  • Training of the IT department in the use of management and configuration of modules and permissions for users

Effects of implementation


  • Accelerate and streamline the process of transportation planning and execution from the very beginning of receiving a customer inquiry, quotation, creating an agreement, contract, planning, execution and billing of transportation.
  • The combination of simultaneous execution of processes from multiple carriers has made it easier and more flexible to transfer data especially during pandemic periods.

  • By building an RFID module and integrating it with other modules and properly configuring alerts, the company a real picture of the resources and goods located in a specific area. Each gate crossing is recorded in terms of verification of the specific wagon/locomotive, its weight, the goods it carries as well as the number of units entering.
