Comprehensive implementation of RailSoft system at a mining industry leader

Our client is a world leader in the mining and processing of valuable metals. Founded in 1949, the company mines and processes natural resources, including copper, molybdenum, palladium and nickel. The company has production facilities on three continents and maintains copper reserves estimated at 40 million tons, consolidating its position as a global player in the mining and multicommodity sector.

Situation before implementation

Before implementing the RailSoft system, the customer faced the following problems:

  • The main shipping orders were processed partly in the SLK system, Excel files and on cards, resulting in a lack of a unified process.
  • A large number of delays and document errors due to the lack of remote access for the traction team.
  • Generating additional costs due to the lack of weighing and counting of wagon combinations when crossing gates at mines.
  • Lack of integration with SAP, SKRJ and SEPE, resulting in double work when verifying data in daily processes.

 

Implemented solution

Petrosoft.pl. in cooperation with our client’s IT department, carried out the implementation of the RailSoft system, adapted to the management of a railroad company, a siding and a workshop. The scope of implementation included:

  • Analyze the existing SLK system and the current operational situation
  • Delivery of a comprehensive solution that complies with the security policy
  • Creation of dedicated modules on client’s order.
  • Creation of dedicated modules on client’s order.
  • Training of employees and the IT department in the technical and business operation of the system.

The provided RailSoft system supports and streamlines processes related to:

  • Resource management: Transportation unit mapping, siding mapping, resource efficiency documentation.
  • People management: employee files, work schedules, employee equipment, documents, licenses, exams and training.
  • Freight management: CRM modules, customer contracts, order planning, railroad documentation, rolling stock logistics.
  • Maintenance and operation of rolling stock: Management of wagons, locomotives, maintenance schedule, repairs, operation of external workshops.
  • Siding management: siding file, RFID, siding equipment management, safety & security.
  • Financial and operational controlling: Dedicated operational reports, alerts and cyclical tasks, cost and revenue reports.

The RailSoft system has been implemented and operates on three platforms: office, web application, mobile applications and RFID gateways. Thanks to the team’s knowledge and experience, the system was tailored to the company’s specific operational and security policies.

Effects of implementation

  1. Streamlining freight processes: The RailSoft system has made it possible to quickly plan and execute shipments, from the moment of customer inquiry to the execution and settlement of the shipment.
  2. Making work more flexible and simpler through platform integration: Simultaneous work across multiple devices and platforms has increased flexibility and simplified data management.
  3. Optimized intra-group resource management: The implementation of a multi-company system made it possible to manage resource data in a single database while limiting access to individual data for different companies.
  4. Real picture of resources thanks to the RFID module : The RFID module integrated with other RailSoft modules enabled the tracking of selected railcars over dozens of kilometers of sidings in the plant area and monitoring of parameters such as weight and goods , and above all the time from loading to unloading of sensitive goods.
  5. Separate time to handle tasks through integration with external systems: Process automation has saved staff time by eliminating the need for manual data entry.
  6. Respond quickly to changes with cyclical tasks and reports: The system allows you to monitor and analyze data deviations on an ongoing basis, allowing you to react quickly to potential problems.
